Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
Duncan and Cleone have an announcement for me to make public: they are expecting puppies again! If all goes well, the litter should be born around 4/11/18 (just 2 days before Cleone turns three, and 8 days before Duncan turns two!) Cleone is in great body condition and has all her usual energy so far, but she will probably have morning sickness soon. We shall see. I am really excited to see how this litter turns out. The puppies from the last litter are doing well and I hope to post a six month update soon. The waiting list for this litter is full to overflowing at this point, but I don't know whether everyone will end up staying on the list. I will be sending out a group email soon to check on interest levels and will update the waiting list on the "Puppies" page accordingly.

Sorry folks, I know this update is very late today. The good news is that I was able to accomplish all the most pressing points on the farm to-do list (such as build chicken pen, fix a gate, and fix the goats' stall so that the horses can't steal their hay anymore.) Just as William, Emaline, and I finished the chicken pen, a man from church drove over to drop off the livestock trailer and I just had to give horseback rides to his two daughters who came along. (I remember the days when the ambition of my life was to ride a horse, so I try to enable other children to experience that.) Anyway... That's why this update is late. Sorry! :/
The puppies are all doing well. Bouncy, friendly, full of energy, and always wanting attention. They don't look as good as they did last Saturday, though. When they came here, they were extremely wormy and had the classic fat worm-bellies. Of course, the very first thing I did was worm them and now they have lost those fat bellies and are appearing in all their slenderness. I'm working on feeding them up and will be supplementing their dry dogfood with fresh, raw milk from our cows, so I expect they will gain a decent amount of weight before they go home. They were actually skinny when they came, but because they were pot-bellied from the worms, they appeared fat. Now they can eat well and put on healthy weight, they should grow much more quickly. I have been working on doing some crate and leash training every morning. The sessions with each puppy are quite short, but you can't have a long session with a puppy this young. At this point I think Luxembourg is doing the best, followed closely by Brunswick and Prussia. (Well, Prussia was a real rascal this morning, but he usually does really well.) They won't be fully leash or crate trained when they go home, but at least they will be off to a start. I was hoping to compile and post the videos I took of each puppy this morning, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. There's just too much going on around here (Saturdays are extra busy.) I confirmed with our veterinarian that she will come do health certificates on Friday, the 9th, so it looks like they will be ready to go on the 10th. I would rather not do any pickups on the 9th so that I can keep the schedule from getting too full that day, but if you just have to pick up your puppy then, contact me and I can probably work it out. Thank you to all of you who are providing loving, structured homes for these pups! I am sure they will add a lot of joy to your families. *Click on any picture below to enlarge it. |
