I have sat down several times to write this blog post and somehow or other just never actually did it. Sorry folks! But better late than never, so here goes: Sox Ladies first, so the one and only female of the litter gets to be first here. She is full of life, energy, and love - and, like her mother, she is a licker. (If she's much like her mother, she'll give her family members a full bath if they let her!) She is an expert at catching and fetching balls and knows to come, lay down, and sit on command. Stay - well, that's still in the works. When a puppy has that much energy it's hard to keep it still for long! Apparently she also loves to dig - I don't know where that came from since neither Duncan nor Cleone dig much at all. Duncan will if he's locked up (or if one of his girls is, LOL) but other than that, digging has not been an issue. Sounds like she is handling life with her new family in Brandon, FL just fine! Sir Lancelot Here is Lancelot, all suited up to go out on the boat. :) He is such a handsome boy and getting quite large. Mrs. P. (his owner) told me that he was in the Christmas parade and handled it very well. He's very sweet and lovable and has the classic Border collie energy, so he loves running and going along on bicycle rides with his family. Jackson I've heard that Jackson is doing well and has LOTS of energy. He has learned to sit and lie down and is continuing to progress in his training. Looks like he loves playtime, too! Clyde Clyde has become so handsome and looks SO much like Duncan! I can see Cleone in him too, but it's hard to look past "DUNCAN" written all over his face. His owner, Kate, told me via text: I couldn't have asked for a smarter and more well behaved puppy and he is growing up to be such a handsome and sweet dog. Everyone who meets him ends up falling in love with him and I want to thank you so much for bringing him into my life. Kate, I am blessed to have been the means of providing you with a great dog. I hope he is a blessing for many years to come! P.S. I am especially impressed with Clyde because he is (or was?) in an apartment. I am very slow to sell pups to apartment homes, but they can do just fine as long as the owner is dedicated to putting the time/ energy into training and exercising them. Clyde is proof of this! (BTW, he was also the calmest pup of the litter, which probably helped.) JJ JJ got off to an interesting start - when the puppies had their 8 week checkup with the vet, he was diagnosed with a grade 2 systolic heart murmur. I didn't want to write about this publicly until we saw how things turned out, but of course I notified his family of his condition. Dr. Harty, our vet, told me at the time that he would likely grow out of it by the time he was six months old and my online research turned up the same results - many puppies are born with heart murmurs which disappear by the time they grow larger. Sure enough, that is exactly what happened with JJ. (From what I have read and heard, puppy murmurs are not really too much grounds for concern, but of course if I was getting a lot of pups with murmurs, I would need to try to figure out which dog was causing the issue and stop breeding that dog.) Anyway, JJ's latest checkup showed that he is now in perfect health with no heart murmur. The amazing thing is that his owner emailed me the good news while we were eating supper with our vet, Dr. Harty (she is also a personal friend) so we got to rejoice over the news together. She had just been asking me whether I had heard if the murmur was gone, so we were really blessed to hear the news together. JJ has settled in well with his new family and is a blessing in their lives. I am so glad to hear this! Tommy Tommy is doing great in his new home, except that he has an affinity for digging, and is shy of strangers. (Duncan used to be very shy too, so this is not terribly surprising. We were able to eventually work him through it.) Mr. C. (Tommy's owner) has told me that he is very intelligent, obedient, and healthy. I am so glad to hear this! The pups have come a long way since they got their start here, on the SandSpur Ranch. I always love hearing how they are doing and am happy to help in any way I can. Thank you all, SSR puppy owners, who have sent me pictures and updates. I hope the pups continue to do well and bring many hours of joy and love into the lives of all around them! L-R: Cleone (mama), Clyde, JJ, Lancelot, Jackson (white head) Tommy (leaning across Jackson), Sox, Duncan (sire).
*Sorry Duncan looks so worried - he was scared to death of his puppies!
